School Holidays And Things To Do With The Kids in Hope Valley
Families who
enjoy the outdoors will adore a weekend getaway or a week-long vacation in the
Peak District, the UK's oldest National Park. We enjoy nothing more than taking
our family on a lengthy hike around the Peak District with our hiking boots on
and a picnic in our rucksack. But there is a tonne of other kid-friendly
activities in the Peak District as well, such as riding vintage trams, exploring
subterranean tunnels, kayaking, swimming in the wild, visiting farm animals,
and visiting some fantastic theme parks. So here are the best activities for
families with children in the Peak District.
Play At A Playground:
While we
believe that nature provides for the finest playground and that there is never
a shortage of enjoyment to be had dipping toes into streams, leaping over
boulders, or running down hills on a Peak District family walk, a decent
playground may also make parenting simpler.
Heights of
Abraham and Chatsworth House both have excellent playgrounds that are among the
best in the Peak District. To enter these, though, costs money. Check out our
list of the top playgrounds in the Peak District if you're seeking a free
playground in the area.
Enjoy Bakewell Pudding:
Bakewell, the
birthplace of Bakewell Puddings, is a charming market town for an afternoon
stroll and is idyllically located on the banks of the river Wye. There are a
few bakeries that sell the pudding. Pick one up and enjoy it by the river, or
perhaps go to Bakewell Recreation Ground, where there is room for the
youngsters to run around, kick a ball, or play in the splash park or playground
in the Hope Valley.
It's also
worthwhile to stop by the Farmers Market on the final Saturday of every month.
The nicest part of the fair is witnessing the livestock auction; there are over
70 vendors selling cuisines and handmade goods.
Go for Family Hiking:
Hiking is the
most popular activity for families in the Peak District. It's the ideal free
activity because the National Park is traversed by hundreds of public footpaths
and has moderate rolling hills that aren't too strenuous on young legs.
The Roaches
or Padley Gorge are our favourites for kids. Or perhaps guide them on the 5.4-kilometre
Lud's Church Walk, which descends into a deep chasm thought to be the hiding
place of Friar Tuck and Robin Hood!
